The cargo ship Donghai has departed China's Yingkou Port in Liaoning province for Port Elizabeth in South Africa, loaded with a batch of 7,211 tons of Chinese-made 50-meter steel rails.
The project, managed by a subsidiary of China Railway Construction Corporation Limited (CRCC), will support the modernization and upgrade of South Africa's existing railway network.
This is China's first export of SAR48 specialty steel rails featuring high hardness, wear resistance and durability, to the South African market. The rails were developed by CRCC in partnership with Ansteel Group, overcoming technical challenges by refining designs and production processes, eventually ensuring successful mass production.
The shipment represents a breakthrough for CRCC in South Africa's logistics market, reflecting the integration of central state-owned enterprises into the Belt and Road Initiative and advancing the China-Africa shared future policy, while contributing to South Africa's economic and social development.
