A film exploring trade links between China and Latin America was among the winners at the awards ceremony for the sixth Belt and Road Initiative Short Video Competition, which was held in Beijing on November 22.
Almost 2,000 entries from more than 130 countries and regions were submitted to the latest edition of the competition after its launch in September. The contest recognizes outstanding videos in 10 categories, including “Integration of Civilizations”, “Green Practices”, “The BRI Co-builders” and “Voice of the Generation Z”. This year’s entries not only showcased the unique cultures, histories and landscapes of different nations but also highlighted tangible collaborations and people-to-people connections under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
Among the entries, The Shanghai-Chancay Route: A New Chapter in China-Latin America Trade won the Green Practices Award, the film From You and I to We took the Integration of Civilizations Award, while the films Superhero and Ilumina won the BRI Co-builders Award. Other categories celebrated the vibrancy and innovation of young creators, featuring awards for Popularity, AI Smart Creation, and the Overseas Competition.
During the creators' forum, which was held in conjunction with the awards, representatives from organizations like CCCC Tianjin Dredging Co., Ltd, China Huadian Corporation Ltd., and China General Nuclear Power Corporation's Uranium Resources Co., Ltd. shared insights on topics like cultural exchange through short videos and the role of technology in storytelling. They discussed how short videos are shaping global narratives and shared practical tips for combining technology with creativity, providing inspiration to attendees.
Guests at the awards ceremony included Tong Xiaoling, Ambassador of the China Public Diplomacy Association, Zhang Yihao, Deputy Director of the News Center of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, Soparama Nhek, Minister Counsellor of the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in China, Shan Chengbiao, General Manager of Global Times Online, Shi Ding, Executive Editor-in-Chief of Global Times Online, and representatives from enterprises and academic institutions.
While this year's event celebrated recent achievements in BRI-related short video content and explored future directions for innovation in this medium, organizers aim to further enhance the competition in the future, drawing more creators to participate and fostering deeper understanding and cooperation under the BRI.
