Energy China Helping to Transform Healthcare Facilities Across Peru

Updated: September 30, 2024

For over a decade now, China Gezhouba Group Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd. (Energy China), has actively participated in high-quality cooperation as part of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), contributing to the vision of a "Beautiful China" and a better world.

High in the central highlands of Peru, construction of Hospital El Carmen in Huancayo, the capital of Junín, is well underway. Officially launched in December 2022, the project has created nearly 1,000 jobs for local communities. Once completed, it will be the largest specialist hospital for women and children in the region, making currently outdated facilities fit for purpose and addressing the severe shortage of medical resources.

Alberto Jesus Cristobal Rios, an on-site engineer at Hospital El Carmen, previously worked on the Sausal Road project in Piura. He recalled how the Sausal project transformed a rugged mountainous road that was once only passable by motorcycles and off-road vehicles, making travel and transportation extremely difficult for locals. Thanks to the efforts of the company, the road was successfully upgraded, significantly improving local travel conditions.

Meanwhile, in the Amazon rainforest, work on upgrading the Maria Hospital in Mendoza is progressing – another project undertaken by China Gezhouba Group Co., Ltd. in Peru.

Located in Peru's northern Amazon region, Maria Hospital is a secondary hospital for women and children. Upon completion, it will meet the basic healthcare needs of women and children from the area, significantly improving medical conditions and alleviating the difficulty in accessing services.

Karina, who lives near the Maria Hospital project site, passes by the construction area every day on her way to work: "Every day, I see the hospital changing, little by little."

"By this time next year, we won't have to drive for hours to get medical care!"

For the past decade, the company has adhered to the principles of consultation, joint construction and shared benefits, allowing these "small yet smart" livelihood projects to take root and flourish in Peru.

With sincerity and responsibility, the company is actively contributing to the BRI, deepening cooperation between China and Peru and achieving mutually beneficial outcomes.
