China Huaneng Yunnan Integrated Energy Base Surpasses 30 GW in Installed Capacity

Updated: May 20, 2024

The installed capacity of China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd.’s Yunnan branch's integrated energy base has exceeded 30 million kilowatts (30 gigawatts), with Huaneng Dashaba Photovoltaic Power Station's 150,000-kilowatt installed capacity connected to the grid and put into operation. This base has achieved an annual power generation of over 100 billion kWh for five years, with a cumulative power generation exceeding 1.3 trillion kWh, setting new records for clean energy generation.

Dashaba Photovoltaic Power Station, located in Baoshan, Yunnan province, is one of the projects by which Chinese central SOEs enter Yunnan province. The Power Station utilizes an agrivoltaic model with an intensive layout, including a new 220 kV booster station, which can provide over 253 million kWh of clean electricity annually, equivalent to saving 78,100 tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 210,500 tons, offering significant economic and environmental benefits.

The integrated energy base is a crucial part in the west-to-east power transmission program. It includes the development and operation of hydropower in the Lancang River basin and surrounding areas, as well as the construction and operation of renewable energy sources such as photovoltaic and wind power. The base aims to become a multi-energy complementary hub with a capacity of tens of millions of kilowatts and plans to start 45 new renewable energy projects this year, with a total installed capacity exceeding 3 GW.
