The Port of Piraeus in Greece saw the arrival of 140 China-made new-type electric buses on March 3.
The buses were shipped by China COSCO SHIPPING Corporation Limited (COSCO SHIPPING Group) from Lianyungang Port in East China's Jiangsu Province.
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportation of Greece inked an agreement with China-based Yutong Bus Co., Ltd. on purchasing 250 China-made electric buses in 2023. The buses are scheduled to be put into service by the end of April this year in Athens and Thessaloniki.
The general manager of the Athens Urban Transport Organization - OASA pointed out that the plan to include new electric buses in the public transportation system is a milestone in the field of urban public transportation in the country.

As a vital trading hub connecting China and Greece, the Port of Piraeus has evolved into a crucial gateway to import products from all over the world to Europe, especially the Central and Eastern European regions. It is now becoming a regional logistics distribution center.
The adoption of green products such as China-made electric vehicles in Greece is expected to promote the green transformation of transportation in Greece and Europe, while boosting the rapid development of the roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) business in the Port of Piraeus.
At present, COSCO SHIPPING Group has 10 berths for car carriers at the Port of Piraeus, including one for the world's largest car carrier. The berths have 12,000 parking spaces and can handle with approximately 400,000 vehicles annually.
COSCO SHIPPING Group, which is based at the Port of Piraeus, has business in regions like the eastern Mediterranean, the Balkans and North Africa.
The company plans to build a car carrier network covering the Mediterranean, North Africa and the entire European region, while enhancing development of related supporting service facilities.
The endeavors are expected to elevate the overall competitiveness in global shipping and trade of the Port of Piraeus, and to contribute to realization of the port’s long-term, stable, and sustainable development.
