By the end of 2023, the cargo throughput for that year via the ship lock of the Three Gorges Dam had exceeded 172 million metric tons, a year-on-year growth of 7.95 percent, according to China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG).

Since the Three Gorges ship lock started operation 20 years ago it has run safely and with high efficiency with a total cargo throughput of more than 2 billion tons.
The Three Gorges ship lift had its trial operation in 2016. Over the past seven years, more than 14.85 million tons of cargo and 990,000 passengers have taken advantage of the lift.
The Xiangjiaba ship lift that started service in 2018 has had a total cargo throughput of more than 7.45 million tons, contributing to rapid development of regional shipping,

For the past 20 years, the hub management center of CTG has joined hands with the government to improve operation and management of the Three Gorges project, playing a key role in guaranteeing shipping efficiency and supporting high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.

In 2024, CTG will continue to improve development of the Three Gorges project and the operation efficiency of the Xiangjiaban ship lift, promote renovation of the Three Gorges Dam's autonomy and controllability with high quality, speed up research and application of the online surveillance of the throughput equipment, and develop a smart ship lock by launching smart maintenance and warehousing information systems. CTG expects by doing so to contribute to rapid development of the shipping industry along the Yangtze River and high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
