Recently, the China National Offshore Oil Corporation's (CNOOC) Shenzhen Branch completed the installation of a set of 12 deepwater suction anchors for the Liuhua 11-1/4-1 oilfield secondary development project in the southeastern waters of Shenzhen, South China's Guangdong Province, approximately 260 kilometers offshore. These suction anchors have the deepest penetration and highest mooring load capacity among those currently used in China. This achievement marks a new breakthrough in the construction and installation of mooring systems for floating facilities in deepwater oil and gas fields in China. It is of great significance to enhancing the nation's marine equipment manufacturing capabilities and ensuring national energy security.

The Liuhua project includes a deepwater jacket platform and a cylindrical FPSO (Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading) in its secondary development plan. The installed suction anchors are used for mooring the cylindrical FPSO at sea. The suction anchor is the core equipment of the mooring system of deepwater oil and gas field floating facilities and consists of a cylinder, a top cover, cast-in lifting lugs, and anchor head chain. The suction anchors installed in this project were domestically designed, constructed, and installed. Each set of suction anchor is designed with a mooring load capacity of 2,500 tons, a height of 22 meters, a diameter of 6.5 meters, and a penetration depth of 21 meters into the seabed. The installation was carried out by the 3,000-meter deepwater multi-functional subsea operation vessel "Ocean Oil 286."

The Liuhua project is China's first deepwater oilfield secondary development project. The main production facility of this project, the cylindrical FPSO, is the first domestically developed, designed, built, and installed cylindrical FPSO in China, and it is also the first in Asia and the seventh in the world. It is expected to be completed in the first half of 2024 and will be used in the Liuhua 11-1 oilfield. Next, the project will carry out the installation of the polyester cable mooring system with reclaimed water buoys for the first time in China, laying a solid foundation for the future mooring of cylindrical FPSOs in the sea.
