In recent years, the smart transportation industry in Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality has been rapidly developing due to China Mobile Limited (China Mobile)'s implementation of new generation of information and communication technologies in the city.
"We continuously deepen the cooperation with Chongqing by fully using 5G and other new generation of information and communication technologies and innovating new scenes for the application of smart transportation to accelerate the construction of Chongqing smart transportation," said a responsible person of China Mobile.
Many No.1s in unmanned field
Thanks to the 5G network and the V2X vehicle-road coordination system co-built by China Mobile, Baidu, China Merchants Testing Vehicle Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd. and other partners, the country's first wholly unmanned vehicle demonstration operation qualification was released in Yongchuan in August 2022.
Actually, it is not such a simple story. In recent years, China Mobile has been deeply involved in unmanned projects and has received many firsts with partners.
Early in January 2019, China Mobile engineered a 5G unmanned bus jointly with Huawei, the advanced vehicle and new energy vehicle laboratory of Southeast University and the Easy Mile of France, which was officially tested in Chongqing.
In 2021, China Mobile Chongqing branch carried out an autonomous driving application pilot project with China Merchants Testing Vehicle Technology Research Institute Co, Ltd and other companies.
In August 2021, after the inauguration of the Chongqing (Liangjiang New Area) national pilot area for the internet of vehicles, the first one in Western China, China Mobile focused on the application demonstration in vehicle-road collaborative diversified scenes, energizing the construction of the pilot area.
In September 2022, China Mobile's Chongqing branch together with QCRAFT, CiDi (Changsha Intelligent Driving Institute Ltd.) and Tencent set up the unmanned bus fleet, which was put into trial operation in the Chongqing Liangjiang Coordinative Zone. It is the country's first 5G unmanned bus fleet for mountainous urban transportation.
Navigation technology for underground tunnel
With the advance of Chongqing's smart transportation, the navigation system for the city's complex road conditions is getting more convenient and accurate due to the application of the "5G+Beidou" precision navigation system developed by China Mobile Chongqing branch and the China Mobile Shanghai Research Institute.
The navigation system combines the deep integration of 5G and the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System so that where there is a 5G signal, there is a Beidou satellite signal.
In addition, China Mobile cooperated with Baidu to provide a lane-level navigation service based on the "5G+Beidou" navigation system and a Baidu high precision map of certain roads in the Chongqing central urban area.
Solution to the potential safety hazard of waterways in mountainous areas
By utilizing "5G+Beidou" precision navigation system, China Mobile explored solutions to the hidden danger of waterway safety in mountainous areas.
Inland waterways are usually narrow with many bridges, causing ships to easily crash against the river bank and bridge body. To solve this trouble, the Changjiang Chongqing Waterway Bureau launched an application research project of waterway maintenance in mountainous areas. China Mobile Chongqing branch and the China Mobile Shanghai research institute were involved in all phases of the project.
After one year of operations, the project had made remarkable achievements and resolved potential safety hazards in waterways, which not only improved waterway maintenance and water transport safety, but also provided experience for upgrading the safety guarantee of inland waterways in mountainous areas with intelligent methods.
