The No. 2 generator unit of the 2×660,000-kilowatt Hunutlu Thermal Power Plant Project in Turkey was put into operation on Oct 3, three months ahead of schedule. Both units of the plant are now in commercial operation.
Located in Adana Province, the project is equipped with two 660,000-kW ultra-supercritical generator units, with a total installed capacity of 1,320 megawatts.
The project also includes construction of flue gas desulfurization and selective catalytic reduction denitrification facilities, which are expected to improve its emissions control beyond European Union standards.
A key project under the framework of the Trans-Caspian East-West-Middle Corridor Initiative, respectively proposed by China and Turkey, the plant has the greatest direct investment from a Chinese enterprise of its kind in Turkey, measured at about $1.7 billion, since the establishment of China-Turkey diplomatic relations.
More than 90 percent of the facilities were purchased from China, realizing export of Chinese planning, design, engineering, standards, equipment, technologies, management and service. It is a modern power plant invested, built, managed and operated by China.
With operation of the two generator units, the project is expected to become a world-leading clean, highly-efficient and reliable coal-burning power plant capable of generating nine billion kilowatt-hours of power annually.
China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd. was responsible for the project.
