Sinopec Group's Jianghan Oilfield Has Produced Over 50 Billion Cu M of Natural Gas

Updated: October 12, 2022

China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec Group) has announced that its branch of Jianghan Oilfield has produced more than 50 billion cubic meters of natural gas.

The company now has a daily output of nearly 20 million cubic meters, meeting the domestic natural gas demand of about 40 million households, which contributes to guaranteeing national energy security and realizing the nation's "dual carbon" goals of peaking carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060.

With natural gas production areas in Fuling of Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality and Lichuan of Central China's Hubei Province, the company has realized an increasing output in recent years thanks to its combination of conventional and unconventional techniques in both marine and continental strata.

Since the commercial development of the Fuling shale gas field in 2012, Jianghan Oilfield kept optimizing development plans of the old sections and improving construction quality of the new ones. Innovative technologies have been developed and adopted to boost unconventional natural gas development capacity.

Conventional gas development has also been a highlight of the company. For instance, the company strengthened fine management of the Jiannan natural gas field which has more than 50 years of development history. Dynamic analysis has been launched there to control the speed of water invasion while using the pressure development method, which improved output of each well by 10 percent.
