An open house event was recently held at the Assac Wind Farm in Southern France, an opportunity for local people to learn how wind power promotes local development.
The wind farm was developed and operated by CGN Europe Energy, a subsidiary of China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN).
It welcomed 250 pupils from nearby schools and local farmers to the open house. Also participating at the event was Myriam Vigroux, mayor of the Assac muncipality.
According to Gregoire De Grendre, an employee working in the engineering operation and maintenance department, the wind farm has 10 wind turbines. Each of them is 85-meter high with 45-meter-long blades.
The project produced 30,000 megawatt-hours of power in 2020, which was distributed to 6,500 households.
He also explained how green energy contributed to environmental protection and showed the entire process of wind turbine construction to the visitors.
Later, visitors to the project were ushered to the wind farm. The 6-kilometer path between the modern wind farm and the ancient windmill is the first stage of a hiking route that stretches through the city, the mayor proudly said.
The mayor also mentioned that the hiking path has become an industrial tourism project based on the wind farm development and has attracted many tourists.
In addition to developing green energy, CGN Europe Energy also highly values protection of biodiversity.
Chris Francois, an environmentalist at the company, said that monitoring devices and speakers have been installed at the wind farm in order to collect information of the different bird species, their flying distance and paths and also to keep their distance from the wind turbines.
CGN Europe Energy concentrates on the development, construction and maintenance of renewable energy like solar and wind power.
So far, the company has a total installed capacity of 2.4 GW and provided more than 5 billion kilowatt-hours of new energy power in 2020, enough for the power demands of up to 2 million European households.
