China Southern Power Grid (CSG) is set to launch a new platform in late June aimed at providing high-precision BeiDou Navigation Satellite (BDS) system-based positioning services in five provincial regions in South China, according to the company's recent-released plan for China's 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period.
The platform, targeting Guangdong, Yunnan, Guizhou and Hainan provinces and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, will also offer short message communication management and time-frequency monitoring services.
BeiDou high-precision positioning services will play a key role in the autonomous inspection of power grid drones and geological disaster monitoring.
CSG will realize full coverage of independent inspection of 500kV and above power lines by 2022, and complete at least 300 Beidou high-precision geological disaster monitoring stations by 2025, according to the plan.
So far, CSG has launched pilot geological disaster monitoring projects in Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan Guizhou and other provinces, which have comprehensively improve security management and disaster warning capacity through real-time monitoring of geological changes.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, CSG will expand the application of the BDS system in the power sector and build a series of typical demonstration projects using its self-developed BDS service platform and related terminals equipment.
The company also plans to improve smart grid data sharing and intelligent decision-making based on its unified data center.
The company had completed the construction of 607 base stations by the end of 2020, covering the power supply area.. It has also made progress in the research and development of key BDS technologies and joint laboratory construction.
