The United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) convened a video Board meeting on the night of January 19, 2021. UN Secretary-General António Guterres attended and addressed the meeting. Ren Hongbin, Vice Chairman of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) and the only Board member of the UNGC from China, participated in the event and put forward constructive recommendations.

Sanda Ojiambo, CEO and Executive Director of the UNGC, shared with the Board UNGC's business since last Board meeting, her reflections on 2020, as well as the UNGC's 2021–2023 Strategy.
Guterres appreciated the work done by the UNGC, announced the approval of the UNGC 2021–2023 Strategy, and stressed the importance of scaling up the global business community's contributions to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the implementation of the Paris Agreement.
In his address, Ren highly praised the work of the UNGC in 2020 and the achievements of the Action Platform on "Sustainable Infrastructure for the Belt and Road Initiative to Accelerate the Sustainable Development Goals" founded in June last year. He affirmed the formulation of the UNGC's 2021–2023 Strategy and called on the UNGC to continue to pay attention to developing and the least developed countries as well as vulnerable groups, address inequality, respond to common challenges and seek wellbeing for mankind.
