Updated: 2020-12-03

Track-laying of the first modernized railway in the Republic of Guinea, Dapilon-Santou railway, started on Nov 15, local time.

Located in the Boke and Kindia regions, the 112.3-kilometer railway is a supporting facility of the Santou mining zone and a major infrastructure to serve bauxite enterprises in the affected area.

Scheduled to start operation in June 2021, the railway will not only strengthen Guinea's competitiveness in the global bauxite industry but also drive development of the railway network in West Africa and promote regional economic and social development.

China Railway 18th Bureau Group Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Railway Construction Corporation Limited, is responsible for the second section of the Dapilon-Santou railway which includes renovation, subgrade engineering and construction of culverts, bridges, stations and housing.

During construction, the company recruited local employees, fulfilled social responsibilities and paid attention to safe engineering. Protection of local water sources and the environment was also a matter of great concern.
