A launching ceremony was held in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, for the test vessel ZHI HAI, on Nov 16.
A crucial platform of the national major project on demonstrative emergency communication networks, ZHI HAI carries various facilities including a communication cabin, unmanned aerial vehicles, captive balloons and underwater communication devices.
With a displacement of 1,600 tons, the 70-meter-long and 13-meter-wide ship has a designed speed of 16 knots and can navigate for at least 3,000 sea miles.
The multi-functional ship can be used in scientific investigation in waters near the coastline and in open seas.
It can also perform flexible underwater observation, underwater acoustic communication and positioning, mobile sea surface observation and offshore electronic counter-measures.
What's more, it has emergency response capacity and can arrive at an accident area in a short time.
Docking adjustment and other test operations will be done to improve its carrying and communication capacity.
The ceremony was jointly organized by China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited, Zhejiang Zengzhou Heavy Industry Technology Co., Ltd., and the China Classification Society.
