The first three immersed tubes of the Dalian Bay Undersea Tunnel project in Northeast China's Liaoning province were recently completed and moved out the dry dock.
China's first large-scale cross-sea immersed tube tunnel project that adopted the model of public-private partnership (PPP), the Dalian Bay Undersea Tunnel was contracted by China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCC).
Five kilometers of the 12-kilometer tunnel were built under the sea.
CCCC First Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd. is responsible for construction of the precast yard and facilities on the north and south banks as well as site cleanup work. It is also in charge of the sinking and installation of 18 large immersed tubes.
CCCC Fourth Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd. shoulders the concreting work.
The project includes China's largest dry dock precast yard featuring two separate rooms to the east and west.
The first batch of immersed tubes are E1, E5 and E6. They will be filled with water in the west dock after the first fitting-out.
The highly-efficient operation to move the immersed tubes out of the east dock was successful thanks to the project team's efforts. At present, the E2, E3 and E4 tubes are in prefabrication at that dock.
The Dalian Bay Undersea Tunnel will be a new south-north expressway in Dalian and is expected to relieve traffic congestion during rush hours and to promote integrated construction on the two banks of Dalian Bay.
