Chinese Central SOE Holds Technical Skills Competition in Africa for Five Years Running

Updated: 2019-05-08

The Africa Tech Challenge (ATC) is one of the themed activities of the series of events initiated by the Chinese embassy in Kenya and the Chinese economic and commercial office.

It is a corporate overseas social responsibility event jointly organized by the Kenya Ministry of Higher Education and its sponsor AVIC International Holding Corporation (AVIC INTL), a subordinated enterprise of Aviation Industry Corporation of China, Ltd (AVIC).

The first ATC was held in 2014, since then the event has been held annually for five years.

Several teams from Kenya, Ghana, Zambia, Uganda, Gabon and Cote d'Ivoire attended the contest which covered events like general machining, CNC machining, mechatronics, APP programming, carpentry, steeling fixing and concreting skills.

The competition has been praised by governments in Africa and countries with Chinese embassies.

The ATC is a competition integrating training and contesting. It has four sections - preliminary contest training, the preliminary contest, final training and the final competition.

The top two schools will win the opportunity to produce engineering mechanical components for Chinese enterprises under the guidance of Chinese technical experts. The top three contestants of the contest will be able to study in China.

In addition to training and competition, several ATC TALKS have been held, during which local entrepreneurs and young leaders shared their entrepreneurship experience and growing-up stories with competitors and encouraged students to change their fate and realize their dreams through hard work.

Graduates of vocational education schools often lack practical operating skills to meet the needs of the market.

The ATC offers a platform for these students to obtain practical skills, which improves their practical skills and supports local industrial development.
