Chinese Central SOEs Seek Win-win Situations in BRI Energy Projects

Updated: 2019-04-29

Abundant energy supply is a must for economic growth. Chinese companies have make full use of their technical advantages to help countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative build hydropower, thermal and wind-driven generating infrastructures.

The BOT project of the first phase of Vietnam Yongxin Coal-fired Power Plant, established by the State Grid Corporation of China, has generated a total of 1.36 billion kWh since its completion, which effectively relieved the power shortage in southern Vietnam.

China Energy Engineering Group Co Ltd (Energy China) has participated in the construction of Pakistan's largest hydropower station - the Nilum jelum Hydropower Project. It has been called "Three Gorges Project in Pakistan" and is expected to solve the problem of electricity shortage for 15 percent of its people.

In addition, State Power Investment Corporation Limited and Energy China jointly built two 660,000 kW coal-fired power generators for China Power Hub Generation Company which produce 9 billion kWh power per year, meeting the need of four million households in Pakistan and creating nearly 10,000 jobs.
